Why does Poe need a Pity Party? And why does he need two of them?

Hello and welcome to Poe's Pretty Petty Pity Party: Part Two. On this blog, we're going to be delving into formal writings, from famed authors like Edgar Allen Poe or Stephen King to the works that we create. This is going to be a space for the admiration of well-written horror and supernatural tales by learning how to write well myself.

My name is Rhanna, I'm an electrical engineering major at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. I picked electrical engineering after I was introduced to Arduinos and coding and the concept that "Hey, I'm smart, I could learn how to make robots!". I owned and singlehandedly ran a bakery from 2018 to 2021 and experienced a whole lot of burnout. In 2022 I earned my GED and started taking classes in the fall. I really enjoy learning about all topics, I've yet to find something that bores me and every new class is bursting with new nerdy things to learn.

Little Soup (top) and Little Luna (the kitten)
I live with my partner and our two cats (Little Soup and Little Luna) who are both torties are very sweet and they are my biggest motivator. I want to work hard to get a good job to spoil all three of them as well as my friends. I enjoy playing D&D and touching as many rocks as I can. I work at the library on campus so if you ever need help with navigating the system, I know people and I'll get you set up.

This blog is part of a school project, so some of the future posts I've yet to be inspired to write yet, and while I'm starting to get an idea of what this space will look like, it's not yet fully formed. I'm taking a few classes over the summer and I'll be reading They Say/I Say by Graff/Birkenstein, On Writing by Stephen King, and A Mind for Numbers by Barbra Oakley so I think I'll be sharing my opinions, either agreeing or disagreeing with those books and learning ways to better convey those thoughts. I'm also relistening to The Magnus Archives, which is a horribly spooky podcast that I enjoy so maybe I'll add some commentary on that as I relisten for the third time.

I look forward to watching this grow, it's been many years since I blogged and I used to really enjoy journaling out into the void, so I'm curious to see how I'll feel about it now.

As for the title of the blog, I mean have you seen Poe? If anyone was going to throw themselves a pity party, it was him and alliteration is always fun! Try saying Poe's Pretty Petty Pity Party Part Two out loud and enjoy a silly tongue twister, you deserve it.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Hi Rhanna,

I love your blog name! And I feel like Poe is the epitome of a pity party. I am excited to read what you've got to say this semester. Who knows, maybe your blog will continue on? Consider me a lifelong follower.

  2. heyyy Rhanna,

Much love for those fur babies of yours !,
owning and running a bakery sounds quite tough, burnout honestly sounds like something I would experience if I was in those same shoes. I tried saying that tongue twister of yours and .. well let's just say some stuff happened such as... [Redacted]
